Know The Rules of Chess (Basic)

Rules of Chess

First, we have to know what we need for playing chess.
1.Chessboard

The Chessboard has 64 squares, 8 squares horizontally x 8 squares vertically. The Squares has two colors on the board, usually it is black and white. The picture above show how to set up the pieces of chess on Chessboard.

2. Chess Pieces
 a. Pawn
The Pawn can move only one step forward except for the first move, the pawn can move two step forward, but after that it just can move  one step forward. Pawn can capture only diagonally forward and of course with one step.

b. Rook
Rook can move forward and backward horizontally or vertically without limited move. Rook can move as far as it can on the board as long as no other piece blocking.

c.Knight
Knight can move two step vertically or horizontally  then one step to the right or left, so the knight move is just like shape of an “L” and Knight can move over other pieces.

 d.Bishop
Bishop can move forward or backward Diagonally without limited move. Bishop can move as far as it can on the board as long as no other piece blocking.

e. Queen
Queen can move forward or backward horizontally, vertically, or diagonally without limited move.  Queen can move as far as it can on the board as long as no other piece blocking.

f. King
The most important piece of Chess, the King. If you lose the King  you lost the game. The King can  move forward or backward horizontally, vertically, or diagonally with just one step of move. King can capture horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

After  know the pieces we know can move to the rules,

1. How To Win?

In Chess game there are three conditions in the end of the game, Win, loose, and Draw. The winner is the player who can capture the King, it’s doesn’t matter if you have less pieces on the board as long as you can capture the king.  The Draw condition happened if:

·         The position reaches a stalemate where it is one player's turn to move, but his king is NOT in check and yet he does not have another legal move
·         The players may simply agree to a draw and stop playing
·         There are not enough pieces on the board to force a checkmate (example: a king and a bishop vs.a king)
·         A player declares a draw if the same exact position is repeated three times (though not necessarily three times in a row)
·         Fifty consecutive moves have been played where neither player has moved a pawn or captured a piece

2. Start of The Game

The player  on white will always move first on chess

3. Special Move
  •    We can promote the pawn become another piece (Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Knight). The promote could happen if the pawn can reach the opponent first row of the board.
  •       King can move two step (castling), but the king need help from rook. First here the condition that must met:

o    it must be that king's very first move
o    it must be that rook's very first move
o    there cannot be any pieces between the king and rook to move
o    the king may not be in check or pass through check

So, if the condition match, the king can move two step to the right with the rook will be on the left next to the king, or the king can move two step to the left with the rook will be on the right next to the king
  •          “enpasant move”, If a pawn moves out two squares on its first move, and by doing so lands to the side of an opponent's pawn (effectively jumping past the other pawn's ability to capture it), that other pawn has the option of capturing the first pawn as it passes by. This special move must be done immediately after the first pawn has moved past, otherwise the option to capture it is no longer available ((https://www.chess.com/learn-how-to-play-chess).
